An Associate Designer at Available Light is a person with a solid foundation in both the Core and Edge Skills as defined below. Associates do have opportunities for lead designer and project management roles, but they are still working, training, and learning to step into a Senior Associate position, where far more autonomy accompanies the role.
Core Skills
- Revit+BIM Collaborate Pro (both critical skills) - AutoCAD
- Bluebeam Revu
- AGi32
- Office 365
- Willingness to travel
- Production of layout drawings, models, etc.
- Preparing lighting fixture schedules, Budgets, Color and Accessories
Familiarity with (a plus):
- VectorWorks, FileMaker, Adobe Creative Suite, Climate Studio, Enscape, 3ds Max
- Sustainable architecture methods & techniques.
- Daylighting, LEED, and/or WELL certification
- Orders, Energy Reports, Submittals, etc. for review with Project Manager
- Creating Renderings, Visualizations, etc.
- Developing Daylighting Simulations/Studies
Edge Skills
- Developing design options based on aesthetic, performance, and/or budget criteria.
- Coordination of design details with clients.
- Control system narratives and riser diagrams design.
- Develop budget estimates based on design and/or historic project data.
- Research light level guidelines, energy codes, and recommended practice documents.
- Lighting fixture/system evaluation, selection, and equals
- Punch listing
- Project Time monitoring
Qualifications
- An advanced lighting degree (MFA, MA, or MS) or equal professional experience.
- Minimum 4 years working professionally in Architectural Lighting Design.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
- Experience in team management and client relationships: from the creative process to critical administrative tasks like budgets, project reporting and ongoing revisions.
- Dedication to lifelong learning and mentoring entry level staff.
Salary
- Salary Range: Comensurate with experience.
- The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law.
- Decisions will be made, within the posted salary range, on a case-by-case basis.
