USGA Experience & World of Golf Hall of Fame

The 2024 opening of the USGA Visitors Center in Pinehurst marks a dynamic return to the spiritual home of American golf. Designed as a hub of engagement, the center unites the USGA Experience, World Golf Hall of Fame, retail shop, and flexible galleries into a singular destination for golf enthusiasts. The USGA challenged the design team to elevate the visitor experience, capturing the joy of the game and moments of interactivity through an immersive, contemporary lens.

Lighting played a crucial role in unifying architectural and exhibit design. A variety of multi-use lighting layers were employed, including ceiling-mounted track lights for highlighting 2D graphics and 3D objects, recessed downlights, and miniature case-integrated track heads synchronized with audio/visual elements. Backlit graphics, edge lighting, cove lighting, and a luminous ceiling contribute to a dynamic visual tapestry, evoking the feeling of open sky.

The Hall of Fame showcases golf’s history, featuring banks of lockers as artifact cases for inductees. Each locker is lit with layered LED elements to accentuate graphics, memorabilia, and artifacts. A custom control system was developed to modulate light levels to conservator standards, while generous ambient light enhances spatial volume and reinforces the outdoor spirit of the game.
